Hiking Trails Near Lambertville, NJ and New Hope, PA

There is no shortage of places to hike near Lambertville, NJ and New Hope, PA. From flat canal paths, to challenging mountains, there’s a hike for everyone. Be sure to review our Hiking Essentials before heading out.

Canal Trails. Explore the Delaware & Raritan Canal trail and the Delaware Canal State Park trail across the river in Pennsylvania. You can easily create loops by crossing bridges across the Delaware. Start at Fireman’s Eddy and walk North to Lambertville and cross the river to New Hope, or continue on to Stockton and explore these charming river towns.

Goat Hill Overlook. The hikes at Goat Hill Overlook will reward you with amazing views of the Delaware River. Trails are newly blazed and. well-maintained. 

Baldpate Mountain (Ted Stiles Preserve). This Mercer County park has over 12 miles of marked trails for hiking, mountain biking, trail running, and horseback riding.

Alexauken Creek. A large expanse of land along Alexauken Creek. The preserve can be entered from the north off Gulick Road, and from the south off Rocktown-Lambertville Road. Hikers can explore several miles along the creek. Alexauken Creek Information and trail map.

Rockhopper Trail. This is an out-and-back trail passing through some old quarry pits, starting on Route 518 and ending in Lambertville. Rockhopper trail information.

Wickecheoke Creek Preserve. The Wickecheoke Creek Preserve. The trail follows the Wickecheoke Creek through dense forest and along scenic meadows. Loop hikes of varying distances are possible by combining sections of the trail with the areas quiet rural roads. At Prallsville Mills, you can connect to this trail from the D&R Canal path.   

Wescott Preserve. Wescott offers an easy to moderate 1/2-mile loop trail off of Raven Rock-Rosemont Road that winds through meadows and hardwoods and provides a vista overlooking the creek. A 1.5-mile hiking trail connects Strimples Mill Road to Mimi’s Trail. This trail continues another mile and enters the Hunterdon Land Trust’s Zega Tract, which has a parking lot on Raven Rock-Rosemont Road. Visitors between September and February are strongly encouraged to wear blaze orange or confine visits to Sundays
